This small family received some amazing news
Parents often hope to have one child at a time, but Becki-Jo Allen, 23, received a surprising revelation from her doctors: she was expecting triplets. She gave birth to three sons, an unexpected and rare occurrence.
When the Allens told their daughter Indiana that she would have three younger brothers, they were overjoyed! The chances of having identical triplets are about one in 200 million. Becki-Jo and her husband were thrilled with their new additions.
The couple, already parents to two children, had been considering expanding their family. With a little help from above, they ended up with three more. During a routine scan, they discovered they were expecting triplets.
Becki-Jo had been experiencing severe headaches, prompting an earlier-than-planned ultrasound. The news of triplets was thrilling for the couple!
“Watching the delivery of three kids via cesarean section at 31 weeks was the most terrifying experience of my life,” Becki-Jo said. “It was really unexpected because our family doesn’t have any triplets.”
Rohan, Roman, and Rocco each weighed around three pounds and five ounces at birth. They spent the first six weeks of their lives in critical care before they could go home. The boys are all incredibly handsome!
“We’re happy with how well our kids managed; after only six weeks, all of them were allowed to return home after rapidly gaining weight,” Becki-Jo said. Everyone who visited remarked on how similar they looked.
A personal DNA test confirmed that the triplets have identical genetic make-up!
Identical triplets are rare because it is difficult for one egg to divide in two and then for one of these divided eggs to divide again during the first ten days of pregnancy. In the US in 2021, only four sets of identical triplets were born. Therefore, this is a truly rare and unique occurrence!
Despite their striking resemblance, Becki-Jo can easily distinguish between her sons. She noted that she can only draw comparisons between them when they are sleeping.
Each boy has a small black birthmark between his brows and a distinctive personality. The three boys use about 130 diapers and five packages of wipes per week, keeping their parents busy.
Indiana is very proud of her three younger brothers and adores them. She is not envious and enjoys the attention they receive.
