Ellen and David were thrilled when their daughter Lisa told them she was going to marry Ric. They had always dreamed of their daughter having a beautiful wedding and a happy life. Things changed drastically, though, when Ellen learnt that Ric’s parents had some strange plans.
Ellen overheard Ric’s parents talking about how they were going to keep her and David from going to the wedding while they were having dinner with their family. They also thought they would pay some of the bill. Ellen was shocked and upset when she heard this.
When Ric’s parents moved in with Lisa and Ric, things got worse. Ellen later found out that they had been using her daughter for their own gain. Ellen tried to talk Lisa out of her behaviour, but Lisa wouldn’t listen.
Even though things were getting worse, Ellen knew she had to do something bold. One very important thing worked in her favour: the house Lisa, Ric, and his parents were living in was still in her name.
Ellen made them choose: they had to leave the house within 10 days or else. Ellen chose to sell the house when they wouldn’t give in. She bought her younger daughter a car with the money from the sale.
Lisa and Ric are still together, but they haven’t gotten married yet. Ellen took a big risk when she sold the house, but she thinks it was the right thing to do to teach her future in-laws how to set limits.
Now Ellen is looking for approval for what she did. Should she have sold the house and used the money to help her younger daughter? Or was she being too mean?
