Heartbreaking photo shows shelter pit bull “losing hope” after adoptions fall through — still looking for a home

Rocky, a 3-year-old pit bull, has been under the care of Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, since October 2022 after his family was evicted and could no longer care for him, according to Newsweek.

Despite being adopted twice and going through several two-week trial periods, Rocky has always been returned to the shelter. His most recent return was in September, and since then, he hasn’t had any luck finding a permanent home. Lindsay Brewer, a communications specialist at Lollypop Farm, told Newsweek that Rocky would thrive best as the only dog in an adults-only home, which can be challenging to find.

Rocky’s prolonged stay at the shelter has taken an emotional toll, as shown in a poignant photo shared by the shelter. In the image, Rocky sits alone in his kennel, his head hanging down in despair after another day of being overlooked.

“This 3-year-old handsome guy is losing hope in finding a home. He really needs our community’s support in spreading the word about him so his new family can find him,” Lollypop Farm wrote on Facebook.

The touching photo has gone viral, with over 31,000 shares and 600 comments on Facebook. Many people expressed their wishes for Rocky to find a loving home soon, and some even offered to cover his adoption fee.

The interest generated by the photo led to Rocky being placed on adoption hold on December 1. However, no adoption has worked out so far. On December 7, Rocky went on an “adoption sleepover,” offering hope that he might finally find his forever home. The shelter promised to update their post if Rocky’s adoption doesn’t succeed and they are still looking for adopters.

While Rocky has captured many hearts, he is not the only dog at Lollypop Farm in need of a home. The shelter encourages people to consider adopting one of their other available dogs, especially during the holiday season.
