Celebrating Angelica’s Unique Beauty
When Angelica was born on May 6, 2018, she was a picture of beauty, with a sweet button nose, radiant eyes, and a heart-shaped port-wine stain on her face. While her mother, Marianna Bowering, embraced Angelica’s unique mark, not everyone was as kind.
Some people made cruel comments, calling Angelica “hideous” or referring to her birthmark in hurtful ways. One particularly offensive remark compared her face to being pressed against a skillet. Despite these insensitive comments, Marianna was determined to ensure her daughter grew up knowing she was beautiful just as she was.
On vascular birthmark awareness day, Marianna painted a replica of Angelica’s birthmark on her own face. “I wanted to be as beautiful as her,” she said. Previously, she had decorated Angelica’s birthmark with glitter to highlight its uniqueness.
Although children with port-wine stains can face health challenges, Angelica is healthy and thriving. Marianna and her husband actively teach their daughter to celebrate her natural beauty.
