11-year-old dies because of online trend – now family is warning others about the household item that took his life
Tommie-Lee Billington, an 11-year-old from Lancaster, England, tragically lost his life after attempting a dangerous TikTok challenge during a sleepover with friends. This challenge, which has gained popularity on the social media app, involves inhaling substances like dry shampoo or spray deodorant to achieve a high.

Tommie’s grandmother, Tina Burns, shared the heart-wrenching moment: “The hospital did everything to try and bring him back, but nothing worked. He was gone.” His mother, Sherri, expressed her devastation and urged parents to discuss the dangers of such challenges with their children. On Facebook, she wrote, “This cost my son his life from trying something other kids are doing.”
Unfortunately, Tommie is not the first victim of this dangerous trend. A similar incident claimed the life of 13-year-old Esra Haynes. In memory of her son, Sherri is determined to raise awareness about the risks of these challenges, hoping to prevent other families from experiencing similar tragedies.

The heartbreaking loss of young lives underscores the urgent need for parental vigilance and conversations about social media safety. As Sherri aptly concluded, “I will make sure to the best of my ability that your name and your beautiful face will become the reason that other children’s lives will be saved.”
