Motherhood is a unique journey, and every woman should have the right to decide when to start her family. Maria del Carmen Bousada de Lara, a retired store employee from Spain, challenged societal norms by becoming the world’s oldest mother at 66. In 2006, she gave birth to healthy twin boys, Christian and Pau, after undergoing IVF treatment, reportedly lying about her age to doctors.
Maria’s decision was met with mixed reactions. Some criticized her for having children later in life, while others admired her determination to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a mother. Tragically, six months after giving birth, Maria was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and passed away in 2009, leaving her family to raise her sons.
Despite her short time with Christian and Pau, Maria remained steadfast in her belief that every woman should have the freedom to choose her own path to motherhood. Today, her story serves as a reminder of the resilience and strength of mothers everywhere.
