Maybe I’d regret it, but then again, maybe I wouldn’t. The possibilities seemed endless.
When I arrived at the retreat, the island’s beauty took my breath away—sunlight, waves, and a soft breeze. Yet, surrounded by young, carefree faces, I felt like an outsider.
Lana, full of energy as ever, found me immediately. “Thea! You made it!” she beamed.
“I’m not so sure about this,” I replied nervously.
“You’ll love it. I’ve got someone for you to meet,” she said, pulling me toward Eric, a fellow writer. His calm demeanor and shared love for writing made me feel at ease. I hadn’t expected the spark of connection between us.
The next day, panic set in—my manuscript was gone. Searching desperately, I overheard Lana and Eric talking. The truth hit me: Lana had taken my work to further her own goals, and Eric, caught in her schemes, hadn’t been honest.
Though betrayed, I left determined to finish my novel on my terms. Months later, it was published—a testament to my resilience.
Eric eventually apologized, and I forgave him, realizing even setbacks could become turning points. Trusting myself, I embraced a future full of possibility.
