Fans of Dancing with the Stars are outraged after Anna Sorokin, better known as Anna Delvey, performed a mediocre cha-cha while wearing a bedazzled ankle monitor. The controversial accessory, required for her house arrest, sparked heated debates online.
Sorokin, infamous for impersonating a wealthy German heiress and defrauding socialites, banks, and hotels, defended her appearance on the show. “I’ve remade myself several times, and this time, I’m going to be a ballroom dancer,” she said during her debut.
Her partner, professional dancer Ezra Sosa, admitted having reservations about her dance experience, joking, “I don’t think she did [ballet].” Despite his doubts, Sorokin received surprising praise from judges. Derek Hough noted her potential, saying, “You have the ability to be a truly beautiful dancer.” Bruno Tonioli quipped, “Reinventing Anna… yet again!”
However, fans were less forgiving. Social media erupted with criticism of Sorokin’s inclusion, labeling her performance “robotic” and condemning the glamorization of her criminal past. One commenter fumed, “Felons should not be given any sort of spotlight,” while another declared, “Ankle monitors are not iconic.”
The polarizing debut left viewers divided, with some questioning if reinvention has its limits.
