Chris Piland, a Pennsylvania father, was appalled after seeing a disparaging remark written on his second-grader Kamdyn’s assignment. The teacher, Alyssa Rupp Bohenek of Valley View Elementary School, had written, “Absolutely pathetic” on the boy’s paper, along with the comment: “Absolutely pitiful, he answered 13 questions in 3 minutes! Unhappy,” followed by a grimace.

The assignment was a timed subtraction exercise meant to gauge the students’ skills. Kamdyn, who completed the fewest problems in the class, became the target of the teacher’s harsh criticism. Piland took to social media, sharing the assignment’s photo and expressing outrage at the teacher’s actions. “This kind of behavior is unacceptable. My son’s teacher has been nasty all year. Writing this on a child’s work is hardly motivational.”

Piland also launched an online petition demanding Bohenek’s dismissal, accusing her of abusing her authority and undermining students’ confidence.
Superintendent Rose Minniti confirmed awareness of the incident and stated the matter was under review, emphasizing decisions would be based on facts, not public outcry.
Bohenek, employed since 2013, faces widespread criticism as the community debates the proper response to her conduct.
