Morbidly obese mum pregnant again despite her – and doctors’ – best efforts

Doctors couldn’t work out how she got pregnant after having a procedure to block sperm from reaching her ovaries

Lorraine had her Fallopian tubes tied six years ago.

But, in a case that had endlessly puzzled doctors, she got pregnant.

The New Yorker already had two kids with her husband, but the pair didn’t want a third, so Lorraine had the surgical procedure to – supposedly – ensure that.

“I got my Fallopian tubes tied about six years ago,” Lorraine told TLC’s Extraordinary Pregnancies .

“I told the doctor, ‘do what you’ve gotta do’, I’ve already got a boy and a girl I don’t need anymore.”

Some might call Lorraine’s pregnancy miraculous .

“I came to my mother’s house and I said ‘I think I need to get a pregnancy test,’” she explained, after noticing there was something wrong with her body.

Mum Tammy told the TV show that she didn’t think pregnancy was possible, but urged her daughter to check.

And the pregnancy test came back positive. Everyone was a little shocked.

Lorraine decided to keep her baby, despite a significant chance of complications because of her weight.

She is morbidly obese and has a BMI of more than 70. She said that she’s had issues with her weight since school.

“I have always been on the larger side since maybe 2nd grade,” said Lorraine.

Her doctor, Robert Silverman, said: “Lorraine’s pregnancy is an extraordinary pregnancy because you’re dealing with a subgroup of patients who we know have a dramatic increase in complications.”

In the TV show, you follow Lorraine through her pregnancy, from the scans to the surgery she needed to give birth.

Fortunately, her son was born healthy. Lorraine and her husband named him Dallas.

“He’s beautiful, the pain is worth it to completely family,” Lorraine said.

Although she did admit that “there will be zero more babies for the family.”

Well, hopefully.
