Hannah Glass, a 19-year-old freshman at Maranatha Baptist University, tragically passed away after an allergic reaction to a brownie containing roasted peanut flour, an ingredient she was unaware of. Known for her bright and compassionate nature, Hannah had always been cautious about her severe peanut allergy. On November 5, just two days after her birthday, she experienced a violent reaction after taking two bites of the brownie, which had been made to accommodate gluten-free students but unknowingly posed a life-threatening risk to her.
Her father, David Glass, described the rapid progression of her symptoms, which included vomiting, hives, and anaphylaxis. Despite immediate efforts with Benadryl and her parents’ desperate 45-minute drive to her school in Watertown, Wisconsin, Hannah’s condition worsened. She collapsed before her EpiPen could be administered.
Paramedics worked tirelessly, but her heart stopped for four minutes. After being placed on a ventilator, doctors determined her brain had suffered terminal damage.
Hannah’s final act of generosity came through organ donation, saving four lives. Her story is a heartfelt reminder of allergy awareness and the fragility of life.
