A dog nicknamed “Werewolf” was spotted in an orchard in Madera Ranchos, California, his intimidating appearance keeping everyone at bay. Emaciated, with matted black fur, a broken tail, and a visibly painful gait, he looked more myth than reality.
Finally, a motorist stayed by his side and posted about him online, catching the attention of Megan Bowe, founder of Bowe’s Adoptable Rescued Pups. Megan rushed to his aid, naming him “King” after realizing the “werewolf” was actually a one-year-old German shepherd mix in dire condition.
King was diagnosed with mange, a shattered pelvis, and a broken tail—injuries likely caused by a car months earlier. Megan isolated him to prevent spreading his infections, starting him on a gradual diet to restore his strength. Despite his pain, King showed nothing but gratitude, leaning his head against Megan for comfort.
After a month of care, King underwent successful surgeries and began walking again. Now enjoying car rides, walks, and doggy ice cream, King is thriving. Soon, he’ll be ready for adoption, thanks to the kindness of one person who stopped to help.
