My MIL Dema>>>>>>>>>>>

When I came home with my newborn from the hospital, I spotted a note on the kitchen table and assumed it was a sweet message from my mother-in-law. Instead, it was a $600 invoice for taking care of our dog, Rich, while I was in labor. My husband promised to handle it, but I had a better plan.

Just days before my due date, I was on the couch, battling back pain. My golden retriever, Rich, rested his head on my lap, sensing my discomfort. “Jake, we need to figure out what to do with Rich while we’re at the hospital,” I called. He casually reassured me, “Don’t stress. Mom loves Rich. She’ll handle it.”

Later, Jake called his mom, Abigail, who agreed to help. The next morning, we said goodbye to Rich at her house. She smiled, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that she wasn’t thrilled about not being at the hospital.

Labor was brutal, but when my son was placed in my arms, all the pain melted away. A few days later, we headed home. Jake called Abigail to thank her, and she graciously said she’d wait a few days to visit.

When we got home, I found a note from her: “You owe me $600 for feeding and walking Rich. My time costs money.”

Shocked, I handled it. A week later, Abigail came by, asking for her money. I slid a folder across the table with an invoice for all the favors we’d done for her. Her face went pale. She stormed out, and Jake hugged me, saying, “No one should mess with my wife.”
