Man Who Vanished 27 Years Ago Found Alive in Neighbor’s Cellar
Omar Bin Omran, who disappeared 27 years ago at age 17, has been found alive—just 200 meters from his family home.
Presumed lost to Algeria’s brutal civil war, Omar was actually imprisoned in a hidden cellar beneath his neighbor’s sheep pen. Authorities discovered him under layers of hay after receiving an anonymous tip.
His family, long believing he had died, was in utter shock. His cousin, Khaled Rgueb, stated, “He is afraid, in complete shock. He is not used to being outside.”

Omar revealed that he had seen his relatives walk by over the years but believed he was under a supernatural spell, preventing escape. Reports suggest his loyal dog lingered near the neighbor’s house, only to be poisoned.
The suspect, a 61-year-old man, was arrested while attempting to flee. Six others have also been detained. Algerian authorities condemned the crime as “heinous” and vowed severe punishment.
Omar is now receiving specialized care as he begins his long road to recovery. His mother, who passed away years ago, never learned the truth.
