Bride and Groom Speak Out After Wedding Fire Kills Over 100
What was meant to be the happiest day for Haneen, 18, and Revan, 27, turned into tragedy when a fire at their wedding in Iraq’s Nineveh province killed 107 people, including their closest family members.
The devastating blaze broke out at a popular wedding hall in Qaraqosh, near Mosul, where over 900 guests were gathered. According to reports, the fire spread rapidly due to flammable materials in the building. The couple recalled a power cut before their first dance, followed by flames engulfing the ceiling.
“I heard crackling… the ceiling started to melt,” Revan told Sky News. He desperately pulled Haneen to safety, but she sustained injuries amid the chaos.
Authorities confirmed fireworks triggered the fire, and the hall was overcrowded. British fire expert Arnold Tarling stated, “These fires are avoidable.” Fourteen people, including the hall’s owner, were arrested.
Revan expressed their grief: “Inside, we are dead.” The couple has since decided to leave their hometown, unable to bear the weight of their loss. “Why did this happen?” he asked, echoing a grief too immense to comprehend.
