Jennifer had found solace in books ever since she married Martin. She loved him, and he loved her, but his daughter, Carrie, had never accepted her. At eighteen, Carrie remained rebellious.
Engrossed in her novel, Jennifer barely noticed Martin standing before her, furious. She removed her headphones.
“When were you planning to tell me about this?!” he demanded, holding up a positive pregnancy test.
Jennifer’s heart pounded. “Where did you find that?”
“The trash! Were you keeping this from me?”
Jennifer hesitated before speaking. “Martin, it’s not mine.”
Later, Jennifer approached Carrie’s room. “Carrie, we need to talk.”
Carrie’s eyes filled with tears. “Thank you for not telling Dad.”
“What are you going to do?” Jennifer asked gently.
“I don’t know. He’ll force me into medical school anyway.”
Jennifer sighed. “You have a choice. But we must talk to him.”
That evening, Carrie confessed. Martin reacted in shock, but Jennifer stood firm. “This is her choice, Martin.”
Eventually, they met with Billy’s family. Though uncertain, both families pledged support. Together, they would face the challenges ahead.
