Jon Batiste has something special planned for fans at the Super Bowl LIX opening ceremony. As he prepares for the performance, he remains devoted to his wife, Suleika Jaouad, who is battling cancer for the third time.
Batiste and Jaouad first met as teenagers at band camp. Over the years, their love deepened, with Jaouad learning more about creativity from him than from any book. In 2011, she was diagnosed with cancer, given just a 35% survival chance, but she beat the odds.

Their love endured through hardships, and in 2022, after Jaouad’s second leukemia diagnosis, they married in an intimate ceremony. Batiste emphasized that her illness wasn’t the reason for his proposal—he had spent a year designing her engagement ring.
In 2023, Jaouad’s cancer returned as Batiste debuted American Symphony. The Netflix documentary captured their journey, showing Batiste’s struggle to ease her pain. Despite the grim prognosis, she remained hopeful.

As he prepares to sing the national anthem on February 9, 2025, Batiste stands by her side, proving their love is unwavering, no matter the challenges.
