Kelly Ripa burst into tears on live television when her husband, Mark Consuelos, shared heartbreaking news with viewers.
Ripa and Consuelos first met in 1995, when the Riverdale actress joined the cast of All My Children, where Ripa, 54, played Hayley Vaughan.
A year later, in May 1996, the couple married and had three children: Michael, 27, Lola, 23, and Joaquin, 21.
Consuelos revealed the heartbreaking news on Wednesday (February 5) during the newest episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.
In addition to their children, the pair is happy pet parents to two adored dogs: four-year-old Lena and 17-year-old Chewie.
The 53-year-old revealed on the show that the past 24 hours had been extremely traumatic for the couple since Chewie had passed sadly.
“We had to say goodbye to Chewie,” he informed the audience, explaining that the family pet’s health has deteriorated in recent weeks.
“Chewie had stopped eating for a couple of days and had been eating less and less for the past few weeks. She was extremely dehydrated and had some neurological stuff going on,” Consuelos shared, cited by Entertainment Weekly.
Ripa, evidently overwhelmed with emotion, remained relatively silent as her husband discussed how profoundly Chewy had influenced their lives. But when he reminisced about adopting their beloved dog on the show and how she had “grown up with our kids,” Ripa broke down in tears.
Ripa took a moment to recognize how fortunate she and Consuelos have been, stating she felt awful sobbing since “there are much bigger problems in the world”.
The talk show presenter found humor in the sad situation, smiling through tears as she explained how friends, neighbors, and even their mail carrier came over to say goodbye to her beloved dog before she pa:ss:ed away.
