Many people are busy with their schedules, and forgetfulness can be a result of stress or aging. But when memory loss becomes frequent, it might be time to see a doctor. Mark Hatzer noticed his mother Sylvia struggling with memory, and she was eventually diagnosed with dementia. Over time, Sylvia’s condition worsened, and she no longer recognized Mark.

Devastated, Mark decided to fight back by researching ways to improve her condition. He created a brain-boosting diet based on Mediterranean eating habits, including foods like walnuts, blueberries, broccoli, oats, dark chocolate, green tea, and sweet potatoes. After a few months, Sylvia started regaining some of her memory and became more engaged.

With the combination of a healthy diet, brain exercises, and support from family, Sylvia’s condition improved. Mark believes that a diagnosis doesn’t mean the end, as there are ways to manage dementia with effort and determination.

Mark and Sylvia’s journey has inspired others, and the Alzheimer’s Society now shares her recipes and exercises. Though there’s no cure for dementia, regular exercise, a healthy diet, and cognitive activities can help manage the condition. Sylvia’s progress even earned her an invitation to a Queen Elizabeth garden party.

Mark’s dedication and care have made a significant impact, offering hope to others.
