All it took was yarn and love ️
Meet Willy Wonka — a bubbly 2-year-old pit bull whose world changed when an unfortunate accident caused him to lose his ears.
Willy, a dog surrendered to the Sacramento SPCA after his dad could no longer afford his medical care, was in desperate need of attention. After two extensive vet visits, he arrived at the shelter with painful injuries requiring daily care. Despite his trauma, Willy remained trusting and affectionate, forming a deep bond with the staff.
One veterinary technician, John, was concerned that Willy’s missing ear flaps might make him seem unapproachable to potential adopters. To help, John crocheted a pair of replacement ears using white and pink yarn to match Willy’s fur. The next day, John placed the ears on Willy, who quickly warmed up to the idea once he realized treats came with the hat.
The crocheted ears caught the attention of many on social media, and soon, Willy found a loving forever home. Now fully recovered, Willy remains the playful, cuddly pup he was when he first arrived. He has already claimed his spot on the couch and is bonding with his new puppy brother, Zeus. Though no longer needing the crocheted ears, they will always remind him of his SPCA family.
