Death is an inevitable part of life, yet many believe young children should be shielded from such topics. However, sometimes, children face the harsh realities of life sooner than expected. This was the case for 5-year-old Khayne Kheian Naelgas Castro from the Philippines, who tragically lost his mother during the birth of his younger brother.
Khayne couldn’t understand what death meant and believed his mother was simply asleep. He spent hours sitting by her coffin, occasionally laying his head on it, hoping she would wake up. His grandmother, heartbroken, shared the scene on Facebook, revealing Khayne’s innocent question: “Why can’t mommy sleep with me anymore?”
Khayne’s actions, including making a makeshift bed by his mother’s coffin, showcased his deep devotion and love. The photos went viral, and many people expressed their sympathy and offered financial support to the grieving family.
This heartbreaking story highlights the need for supporting grieving families, especially children, as they navigate the confusion and sorrow of loss. Through kindness and compassion, Khayne and his family are finding strength to move forward.
