For Nancy, Her Son Was Everything
For 23 years, Nancy honored her late son Henry by bringing his favorite apple cinnamon pie to his grave. Baking was her way of staying connected to him.
This year, something unexpected happened.
The next day, when she returned to clean up, the pie was gone. In its place lay a note:
“Thank you.”
Anger surged. Who had taken her offering? Determined, she baked another pie, placed it on the grave, and hid nearby.
An hour later, a small, ragged boy appeared. He carefully wrote “Thank you” before reaching for the pie.
Nancy stepped out. The boy—Jimmy—flinched.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered. “I was just hungry.”
Tears welled in Nancy’s eyes. Instead of scolding, she offered her hand.
“Come with me,” she said.
At home, she baked him a fresh pie. Watching him eat, Nancy felt peace for the first time in years.
Maybe Henry had brought Jimmy into her life—a reminder that love should always be shared.
And with that, she found a new way to honor her son’s memory.
