I was at Walmart, just grabbing a few things before heading home. As I walked down the snack aisle, I noticed a tattooed guy near the chips. He gave off a certain vibe, making me hold my purse a little tighter. I wasn’t usually judgmental, but he seemed off. Then, an elderly woman dropped a bag of rice, spilling it everywhere. Before I could react, the tattooed guy was already helping, even making her laugh with a joke. He stayed with her, got a replacement, and helped her back on her feet.
As I watched, the woman patted his arm and said, “You remind me of my grandson.” He smiled, replying, “That’s the best compliment I’ve ever gotten.” I felt guilty. Then, I saw him pay for her groceries.
Later, I saw him again, helping another shopper clean up a mess. It made me realize how quick I was to judge, and I couldn’t stop thinking about the kindness I had witnessed.
