President Donald Trump tore into former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney on Monday after she received a last-minute pardon from former President Joe Biden.
While signing several executive orders in the Oval Office, reporters asked Trump about several major topics. Trump issued roughly 1,500 pardons and commuted the sentences of 14 people in connection with the events at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
“I was going to talk about the J6 hostages, but you’ll be happy because, you know, it’s action, not words that count, and you’re going to see a lot of action on the J6 hostages,” Trump said.
He also commented on Joe Biden’s pardons for individuals involved in the January 6th investigation, including committee members and General Milley. Republicans criticized the pardons, arguing they were an admission of guilt and proof of corruption in the investigation.
Biden defended the pardons, stating that the public servants involved had been unjustly targeted and that their actions were motivated by political bias. He expressed his belief in the rule of law, despite the ongoing political tension surrounding the pardons, especially regarding the January 6th attack and its aftermath. Biden emphasized the importance of protecting those who had served the nation honorably from baseless and politically driven prosecutions.
