Rosie O’Donnell has made the surprising decision to leave the United States and start a new life in Ireland. The well-known comedian and actress shared the news in a nine-minute video, revealing her relocation and explaining that the political climate under Trump’s leadership made her feel unable to continue living in the U.S. She left on January 15, just before his inauguration.
Hints of her move surfaced earlier when she posted a selfie behind the wheel of her car, humorously noting her struggles adjusting to driving on the opposite side of the road. In her video, O’Donnell spoke fondly of Ireland, describing it as “pretty wonderful” with “loving and kind” people, though she admitted missing her children, friends, and parts of her American life.
O’Donnell also addressed the political turmoil, saying, “When it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights, that’s when we will consider coming back.” She reassured fans that despite missing the U.S., she felt it was best for her and her 12-year-old child to make the move.
