What was supposed to be a dream honeymoon in Bora Bora quickly turned into a battle for control when my in-laws demanded our luxury villa for themselves. But when my husband finally allowed me to handle them, I made sure they got exactly what they deserved.
When we broke the news, my parents were overjoyed. They had always been modest, easygoing people who never expected extravagance.
Growing up, vacations meant road trips, budget hotels, and simple pleasures. So when Mark and I invited our parents on this luxurious trip, my mom teared up, and my dad kept asking, “Are you sure this isn’t too much?”
Mark’s parents, however, were harder to please. Before we even booked the trip, his mom insisted we reschedule around their plans. Mark caved.
We booked them a stunning overwater bungalow, but when they saw our villa—4,000 square feet of paradise with a private pool and ocean slide—they were livid.
Linda gasped. “Why do YOU get the best place?”
Richard scoffed. “Mark OWES us!”
Mark hesitated, then met my eyes and nodded. I smiled. “You deserve special treatment,” I said sweetly.
The next morning, Linda and Richard arrived at the front desk, expecting villa keys. Instead, the concierge handed them first-class tickets home.
Linda shrieked. “YOU’RE SENDING US HOME?!”
Mark sighed. “Yeah.”
And just like that, our honeymoon truly began—peaceful, luxurious, and finally just ours.
