“All men are liars.” With these words, Violet ended her radio program. Years of experience and countless stories had proven it. But a date with a coworker made her question her belief—until a call from a stranger reaffirmed it.
Violet leaned toward the microphone, listening to Susan’s trembling voice.
“He’s pulling away… I don’t know what to do.”
Violet’s tone was steady. “Forget him. He’s either cheating or stringing you along.”
James, her co-host, frowned. “Maybe it’s stress or miscommunication.”
“Or a mistress,” Violet said dryly. “All men are liars.”
Later, as she packed up, James lingered. “You don’t actually believe that, do you?”
She shrugged. “What do you want, James?”
He hesitated, then blurted, “Would you go on a date with me?”
She laughed. “Fine. But don’t expect miracles.”
The restaurant was warm, the jazz soothing. James pulled out her chair, making her smile.
“Not so bad, huh?” he teased.
“Don’t get ahead of yourself.”
As James stepped away, her phone buzzed. The moment of doubt was fleeting.
