On January 22, 2025, a tragic school shooting at Antioch High School in Nashville resulted in the death of 16-year-old Josselin Corea Escalante. Josselin was shot in the cafeteria, along with two other students. One victim was treated for a minor injury. Josselin’s father, German Corea, expressed heartbreak, stating, “It’s not fair,” as he never imagined his daughter wouldn’t return home.
Josselin’s aunt also mourned, describing her niece as a calm, well-behaved student who loved her family and had big dreams for a better life. In the wake of this tragedy, the family has called for increased school security.
The shooter, 17-year-old Solomon Henderson, took his own life after the attack. School resource officers arrived moments after the incident. Authorities are investigating Henderson’s motives, but no connection between him and the victims has been found.
Metro Nashville officials, including Chief John Drake and Dr. Adrienne Battle, extended condolences to the community. The school was closed for the rest of the week to allow time for grief, and support services were offered to students and staff.
