Over the years, countless “spooky” images have surfaced online—from alleged Bigfoot sightings to ghosts peeking through old windows. Most are easily debunked, often the result of camera glitches or clever Photoshop work. However, some images still manage to puzzle viewers. One such photo comes from runner Kay Borleis during her grueling 100-mile race through the Hawaiian rainforest in 2019, part of the Hawaiian Ultra Running Team’s Trail 100-Mile Endurance Run. Accompanied by her friend and pacer Cassie, who snapped pictures along the route, Kay later noticed something eerie in one of the photos.

The image shows her running through the jungle, but to the left of her head, a shadowy figure can be seen—appearing to wear tattered clothing and watching her intently. Kay claimed the figure was not visible at the time, nor were there statues or other runners nearby. She posted the photo on Reddit, asserting that it hadn’t been edited or manipulated. The unexplained presence has since left many viewers unsettled, serving as one of the more mysterious and intriguing “paranormal” images shared online.

She described the legend of the Night Marchers—ghostly Hawaiian warriors said to kill anyone who sees them unless they lie prostrate in respect. Described as violent, vengeful spirits, they’re feared across the island. Thankfully, she and her friend didn’t encounter one—only a mysterious figure caught in a photo.
