Stripped of makeup and dressed in unflattering layers, Julia Roberts was nearly unrecognizable while filming August: Osage County in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Playing Barbara Weston, Julia wore a white shirt over a cream top, loose-fitting jeans, and let her brunette hair fall naturally—far from her usual glamorous look. The character is part of a troubled family brought together when their alcoholic patriarch goes missing.
In a particularly emotional scene, Julia and co-star Ewan McGregor, who plays Bill Fordham, walk hand-in-hand to a boat dock, where they’re asked by the Sheriff to identify a body. Upon seeing the deceased, Julia breaks down in tears, delivering a raw, heart-wrenching performance. Ewan’s character comforts her as she weeps in his arms.
Despite the intensity, the mood lightened between takes. Julia was seen laughing with Julianne Nicholson, who pointed out something humorous to the group. Nicholson, dressed similarly dowdy, wore a blue shirt and brown flared trousers. Other cast members include Meryl Streep, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Juliette Lewis. Abigail Breslin won the role of Jean Fordham over Chloë Moretz, while Riseborough was replaced by Lewis due to scheduling conflicts.
