A powerful moment at a California high school track meet has gone viral, sparking national outrage and reigniting the debate over transgender athletes in women’s sports.
At the CIF Southern Section Finals, Crean Lutheran’s Reese Hogan made headlines by standing on the first-place podium—despite finishing second in the triple jump. Her reason? The event’s winner, AB Hernandez, is a transgender athlete born male but competing as female.
The scene, captured on video, shows Hogan stepping onto the empty podium after Hernandez exited, symbolizing, for many, growing frustration over fairness in women’s sports.
Hernandez, from Jurupa Valley High School, dominated with a 41’4″ triple jump—more than four feet ahead of Hogan. Hernandez also won the long jump and placed seventh in the high jump, qualifying for the CIF Masters Meet.
The incident comes amid rising political tension. In February, Donald Trump signed an executive order banning transgender women from female sports, declaring, “The war on women’s sports is over.”
Not all states agree. Maine refuses to implement such bans. Now, a viral moment in California is fanning the flames of a deeply divisive issue.
“Wow, what an accomplishment. I’m sure it had nothing to do with being a biological male,” snarked Trending Politics co-owner Colin Rugg.
Others joined in, echoing a growing wave of criticism.
