Professional boxer Georgia O’Connor, 25, has passed away after a harrowing battle with cancer that she claimed doctors ignored for months. The Durham, UK native, who won gold at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games, shared her diagnosis of cancer and ulcerative colitis in January. “There’s really no easy way to say this, but I have cancer,” she wrote on Instagram. She accused the NHS of negligence, stating she suffered in “constant pain” for 17 weeks while repeatedly seeking medical help. Despite her existing risks due to colitis and PSC, she said doctors dismissed her concerns, refused tests, and even suggested her pain was imagined.
Her condition worsened, eventually revealing widespread cancer and dangerous blood clots. On her 25th birthday, she also revealed she had suffered a miscarriage and was facing a terminal diagnosis. Just two weeks before her death, she married her partner Adriano, calling it “the day I married the love of my life.”
Tributes poured in from across the boxing world. Her promoter, Boxxer, called her “a true warrior,” while friend and world champion Ellie Scotney remembered her as “a sister for life” with “a smile that never fades.” England Boxing hailed her as a “gifted and beloved” athlete.
