Following a fatal plane crash in San Diego on May 22, 2025, six lives were lost, including Dave Shapiro, 42, co-founder of Sound Talent Group and a prominent figure in the live music industry. The Cessna 550 took off from Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport around 3:45 a.m. but tragically struck power lines and crashed into a residential area in Tierrasanta shortly after takeoff.

According to investigators, debris from the crash was scattered over a quarter mile. Fires sparked by jet fuel damaged several homes and vehicles, prompting the evacuation of nearly 100 residents. At least two fatalities and eight injuries were confirmed by San Diego police. An evacuation center was opened at Hancock Elementary School.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has assumed control of the investigation. Shapiro, also a passionate pilot and certified flight instructor, had logged over a million miles. He owned Velocity Aviation, a flight school that reflected his lifelong love for aviation.
Sound Talent Group issued a heartfelt statement mourning the loss. Shapiro, known for his drive in both music and aviation, left behind a legacy of passion, innovation, and relentless pursuit of personal growth.
