I didn’t even know Tom had a brother. “When Jason was eight,” he whispered, “he fell from a tree by one of our hideouts. He didn’t make it. I’ve blamed myself ever since. That map… it’s all I had left of him.” I hugged him as he cried, realizing it had never been about the couch. It was grief, buried deep, stitched inside torn fabric. That night, we framed the map and hung it in our living room. Years later, our kids made their own version, filled with hideouts and imagination.
