Body of Missing Father Found, Search Continues for Daughter on Maine’s Mount Katahdin
The body of 58-year-old Tim Keiderling has been found after he and his daughter Esther, 28, went missing during a hike on Maine’s Mount Katahdin. The pair was last seen at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, June 1, departing from Abol Campground for an Appalachian Trail hike.
On Tuesday, June 3, rangers from Baxter State Park confirmed that a Maine Warden Service K9 team located Tim’s body on the Tableland, near the summit. Search efforts for Esther are still ongoing.
Baxter State Park officials expressed their condolences, saying, “We share in the deep sadness felt by the family and friends of Tim Keiderling and appreciate the public’s support as we continue searching for Esther.”
Katahdin is known for its challenging terrain, with hikes averaging eight to twelve hours round trip. Authorities launched a ground and air search Monday after Tim’s vehicle was found parked. Support includes Warden Service K9 units, Maine Forest Service, and the Army National Guard using helicopters.
Authorities urge anyone who was near the summit Sunday between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to contact Houlton State Police at 207-532-5400.
