Just days after resigning from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Elon Musk launched a scathing attack on Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” branding it a “disgusting abomination” in a viral tirade that has rattled Capitol Hill.
Once a close ally of the Trump administration, Musk swiftly distanced himself from the newly passed legislation, calling out its ballooning budget and cuts to essential programs. Passed by a single House vote on May 22, the bill includes tax breaks for service workers, expanded military funding, and sweeping cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, potentially stripping healthcare from 8.6 million people.
Musk’s fury may also be personal. The bill repeals electric vehicle tax credits and targets Biden-era green subsidies—a direct blow to Tesla. Trump’s June 2 Truth Social post confirmed the repeal, along with a rejection of Musk ally Jared Isaacman from NASA leadership.
“This bill will bankrupt America,” Musk warned on X. “It’s a pork-stuffed disaster.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt brushed off the criticism. But with Musk’s megaphone louder than ever, his shift from technocrat to agitator could reshape his political legacy.
