Kate Winslet was left with “lots of bruises” after filming a steamy scene in the 2006 drama Little Children alongside co-star Patrick Wilson. The film, which follows an unhappy housewife who begins an affair with a married neighbor, earned critical acclaim and landed Winslet an Oscar nomination for Best Actress—though it wasn’t a box office hit.
One infamous scene, shot in a laundry room, featured both actors nude, though modesty garments were used. At the time, intimacy coordinators were not part of Hollywood sets. Wilson later said on The Hollywood Reporter podcast that Winslet was a true professional: “There was never one awkward moment. She was so cool and gracious.”
Winslet later revealed the scene left her sore, admitting, “My hips and backside really hurt the next day.” In hindsight, she expressed strong support for intimacy coordinators, wishing she’d had one “every single time” she filmed intimate scenes. She noted how hard it was, especially when young, to advocate for her comfort on set without being labeled difficult.
Today, Winslet continues to champion safer, more respectful conditions for actors filming intimate moments—proving her strength both on and off screen.
