A 100 year event only comes around one time in history, and it happened recently for the Grand Ole Opry. There were many country music stars on hand that evening and tributes were taking place left and right.
One particular tribute that touched many people at the 100 year anniversary event was when Carrie Underwood went on stage to honor Randy Travis. He had won many Grammys in his career, but now it was his turn to be in the audience.
Randy Travis wasn’t able to perform because of suffering from a stroke about 10 years ago. He developed aphasia, so he hasn’t been able to communicate fully and can’t sing.
Underwood, however, was able to put on a powerful performance and she performed two of his songs, ‘Three Wooden Crosses’ and ‘Forever and Ever, Amen’.
When she started the second song, she told the audience that they better be singing along with it. I think that most people were enjoying themselves, but little did they know that the entire audience would be singing along by the time the tune came to an end.
When she was getting close to the end of the song, Underwood walked out into the audience and stood in front of Randy Travis. At the very end, she held out the microphone and allowed him to send the last ‘Amen’ in the song.
It was a very powerful moment that moved much of the audience to tears and resulted in a standing ovation. You can see the moment for yourself in the following video:
