From Brazil to Germany, only one country officially holds the crown as the world’s best lover
There’s no doubt that different cultures raise people in unique ways, and when it comes to romance, certain countries often get the spotlight in movies and books.
Think about the classic romantic Frenchman or the fiery Spanish heartthrob—these characters have become familiar favorites in love stories everywhere.
Well, a recent survey may have just settled the debate—and the results are raising some eyebrows, especially when it comes to where Americans landed.
Researchers asked 2,000 people to name the nationality of the best lover they’ve ever had. The answers were definitely juicy and full of surprises.
Close behind were the Spanish at 15 percent, and in third place came the Greeks with 14 percent of the vote.
Right after that, Brazilians snagged fourth place. The French followed in fifth, the Portuguese landed in sixth, and the Swedes took seventh place on the list.
American men were most likely grouped into the general “other” category, which came in at number 11 overall.
According to Sylvia Linzalone from the dating app Wisp, it makes perfect sense that Mediterranean men dominated the rankings.
“When you’re in Italy or Spain, romance is practically part of the weather forecast.”
She also gave her thoughts on why British men ended up lower in the rankings.
Most of these romantic encounters didn’t happen at home, though. They happened while people were traveling.

One woman who took part in the poll talked about a whirlwind romance she had in Naples. She said the experience completely ruined British men for her from that moment on.
According to her, the Italian man she met oozed confidence and warmth. Back home, though, she felt like guys just offer a kebab and a cuddle—which doesn’t exactly scream passion.

She explained: “In fact the majority of singles now agree that they show their love and affection by doing the small things such as sharing a meme, a playlist, or sharing an inside joke.”
“So it turns out you don’t need to win over your crush by sending a massive expensive bunch of flowers – I mean you can if you like – but all you actually need to do is send them a cute little meme.”
“Instead of grand gestures, it seems as though people are embracing the joy of micromancing – expressing your interest through small gestures that have a big impact.”
