The Department of Justice has filed a motion to unseal grand jury transcripts from Jeffrey Epstein’s New York criminal case, citing public interest. The move follows Donald Trump’s call for Attorney General Pam Bondi to release relevant testimony. Epstein died by suicide in 2019 while facing federal sex trafficking charges. Any unsealing would require a federal judge’s approval, taking into account victim privacy and ongoing legal sensitivities. Although some records have already been released—including an “evidence list” from February—many remain sealed due to court orders. The DOJ and FBI said they won’t release materials involving child pornography or sensitive victim information. They also confirmed no evidence supports claims of a “client list” or blackmail schemes. Trump’s renewed interest has reignited political debate. He now calls the investigation a “scam” after previously labeling it a “hoax,” while pushing unsubstantiated claims about Democrats altering case files. The White House has rejected appointing a special prosecutor, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt criticizing Democrats for their supposed lack of transparency. The Epstein case remains a political flashpoint, even as officials emphasize the need to protect victims’ identities and uphold judicial process.
