Last week, Air India flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, killing over 270 people. Only one passenger survived. The plane struck a residential area and ended up in the dining hall of BJ Medical College.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Experts are examining possible engine failure, wing flap or landing gear issues, and a potential stall due to loss of thrust. Black box and cockpit recordings have been recovered.
Former Boeing manager and whistleblower Ed Pierson, speaking to NDTV, said chaotic and unsafe manufacturing practices at Boeing could be a contributing factor. He had previously raised concerns about rushed production, overworked staff, and faulty parts in Boeing’s 787 line.
Pierson stressed it’s too early to draw conclusions, but noted worrying reports — including a passenger saying systems like air conditioning weren’t working before the crash. “That’s a little bit of a concern,” he said.
Authorities from India, the UK, and the US are jointly investigating. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.
