What began as a routine Wednesday morning quickly turned chaotic on the Mexico-Querétaro Highway near Huehuetoca, where a massive crash caused a complete standstill.
The incident occurred on November 20 near kilometer 059+000 when a heavy trailer en route to Mexico City lost control. Failing to brake near the Jorobas junction, it veered off an embankment and slammed into five cars and a pickup truck, sprawling across all three lanes and paralyzing traffic for hours.
Though slick roads from recent rainfall are suspected, officials are investigating all possible causes, including mechanical failure and driver fatigue. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported, though several people sustained minor injuries.
Emergency teams responded quickly, and traffic management crews worked to redirect drivers. Still, the gridlock disrupted schedules across the region.
Authorities urge drivers to slow down and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy—especially in poor weather.
As cleanup crews restore order, investigators hope to uncover the full cause and prevent future disasters. This crash, while avoidable, serves as a sobering reminder: behind every commute lies a shared responsibility for safety.
