Colleagues recalled the Blackstone executive who was slain in the mass shooting in Manhattan as friendly and intelligent, while her family saw her as simply irreplaceable.
Wesley LePatner, a mother of two and a senior Blackstone executive, was slain in a mass shooting at the company’s New York offices, and Wall Street is in mourning.
At Blackstone, LePatner, 43, served as senior managing director. She was one of four persons killed in the July 28 incident in Manhattan, which happened at 345 Park Avenue, which is home to the NFL offices and Blackstone headquarters, among other places.
Authorities said the investigation is still ongoing, but the gunman apparently committed suicide during the incident.
Shane Tamura, 27, fatally shot three people, including NYPD Officer Didarul Islam and Blackstone executive Wesley LePatner, before taking his own life at 345 Park Avenue. The attack disrupted several firms, including KPMG. LePatner, 42, was praised as a brilliant, compassionate leader at Blackstone and a trailblazer for women on Wall Street. She is survived by her spouse and two children. Officer Islam, a father of two with a third on the way, died while off-duty protecting the building. Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Tisch hailed him as a hero. A suicide note linked Tamura’s actions to grievances with the NFL and mentioned CTE. Authorities continue to investigate, though they believe Tamura acted alone. Grief grips the city.
