A traffic stop near Detroit led to the arrest of alleged Tren de Aragua gang member Manuel Zavala-Lopez, a Venezuelan national on the terror watchlist. He and two others were in the U.S. illegally. Zavala-Lopez faces multiple violent charges and is now in ICE custody pending removal.

A 30-year-old alleged Tren de Aragua gang member with a violent criminal record and an active warrant was arrested near Detroit, highlighting ongoing interagency efforts to remove dangerous illegal aliens and enhance public safety, officials said in multiple statements.

Traffic stops play a crucial role in immigration enforcement, often leading to arrests and drug seizures. Earlier this month, CBP arrested two Salvadoran nationals in Detroit. One admitted to being an MS-13 member and served 20 years in El Salvador for killing a rival gang member, officials said.

“This is a major win for the U.S. Border Patrol and the safety of our communities,” Detroit Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Javier Geronimo Jr. said in a statement at the time.
“This arrest is a clear example of how agents and our law enforcement partners are protecting our towns by removing violent criminals from our country.”
