Under the back seat

One ordinary Saturday morning, while cleaning my car, I reached under the back seat and felt something dry and brittle. At first, I thought it was a plant stem or craft material, but its rigid, curled texture and tiny hair-like spines made me pause.

Using a tissue, I carefully bagged it and researched online, only to discover it was the shed skin of a **Lonomia caterpillar**, one of the world’s most venomous caterpillars. Native to South America but sometimes accidentally transported, its spines contain toxins that can disrupt blood clotting, cause internal bleeding, organ damage, and even death.

Simply touching it or inhaling particles could be dangerous. Shocked, I contacted local pest control, who confirmed the identification and safely disposed of it, inspecting my car to ensure no others were hiding. The incident was a stark reminder that dangerous creatures can appear in the most unexpected places, even inside a vehicle, and it taught me to always exercise caution, use gloves, and avoid handling anything unfamiliar. What seemed like a harmless piece of debris turned out to be a potentially lethal hazard, showing how vigilance and awareness can prevent serious harm.
