Attorney General Pam Bondi has ordered a grand jury investigation into allegations of a criminal conspiracy tied to the “Russiagate” probe of Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign and presidency. The move follows criminal referrals from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and CIA Director John Ratcliffe after declassified documents suggested intelligence officials under President Barack Obama may have pushed a fabricated “Trump-Russia collusion” narrative connected to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign.
Fox News first reported the development, citing a one-page order Bondi signed directing a federal prosecutor to present evidence to a grand jury. A Justice Department spokesperson declined comment but confirmed Bondi views the matter with “serious concern.”
At this stage, no charges or indictments have been filed. Grand juries operate in secrecy and determine whether enough evidence exists to proceed. Still, the investigation intensifies scrutiny of former Obama-era officials like John Brennan, James Clapper, and James Comey. Critics also point to Clinton’s campaign and the infamous Steele Dossier, which contained unverified claims about Trump and Moscow.
Commentators, including broadcaster Megyn Kelly, have argued the scandal reveals coordinated efforts to undermine Trump’s candidacy and distract from Clinton’s controversies.
