A House Oversight Committee subcommittee has voted to subpoena multiple former attorneys general, Robert Mueller, James Comey, and the Department of Justice in connection with inquiries into Jeffrey Epstein’s case. The move follows Chairman James Comer’s earlier decision to subpoena Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime associate, though her deposition will wait until after the Supreme Court rules on her appeal.
The committee has ordered the DOJ to turn over Epstein-related records by August 19. Former attorneys general Jeff Sessions and Bill Barr are scheduled for depositions on August 18 and 28. Alberto Gonzales will appear August 26, Robert Mueller on September 2, and Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch on September 19 and 30. Merrick Garland is set for October 2, James Comey for October 7, and Bill and Hillary Clinton on October 9 and 14.
While Epstein died by suicide in 2019, controversy lingers. A recent DOJ memo concluded there was no incriminating “client list” or credible evidence of blackmail. Still, Trump allies such as Steve Bannon argue the department mishandled the case. Bill Clinton’s past ties to Epstein, including flight logs and personal correspondence, remain under scrutiny.
