The lifeless body of a yet-to-be-identified young woman has been found inside a hotel in the Igbogene area of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, sparking fear and concern among residents.
According to community sources, the woman had checked into the hotel on Saturday with a young man suspected to be an internet fraudster, popularly known as a “Yahoo boy.” Shortly after they arrived, the man allegedly left the hotel alone, leaving the woman behind.
Hours later, the hotel manager discovered the woman unresponsive in the room and immediately alerted the Igbogene Divisional Police Headquarters.
A resident who spoke to PUNCH Metro said the incident caused panic in the area, especially due to the rising reports of ritual-related attacks linked to fraud gangs.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Musa Muhammad, stated that detectives have begun investigations to uncover what led to the woman’s death.
“We received the report yesterday. No arrest has been made yet, but an investigation is ongoing. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death,” he said.
Police have urged the public to remain calm as efforts intensify to track down the suspect.
