It was one of those in-between days filled with errands and a to-do list that refused to shrink. I stopped by the grocery store, tired and distracted, just trying to finish the day. Nothing about it felt special. At self-checkout, I scanned my items, paid, and started to leave. I was halfway out the door when a woman called after me, handing me my receipt with a gentle smile. I thanked her and tucked it away without thinking.
Hours later at home, I pulled the receipt from my bag to throw it out — and noticed a message scribbled on the back: Check your back seat. My heart jumped. Unsure if it was a warning or a strange joke, I went outside, unease tugging at me. When I opened the back door of my car, I found my wallet wedged between the seats — everything inside untouched.
Relief hit hard, followed by gratitude. That stranger hadn’t chased me or made a scene; she’d simply found a quiet way to help. I still keep that receipt as a reminder that kindness doesn’t need attention — it just needs intention.
