The House of Representatives has passed the Unlocking Our Domestic LNG Potential Act of 2025, a major Republican-backed bill aimed at reversing President Biden’s pause on new liquefied natural gas (LNG) export approvals. Championed by House Speaker Mike Johnson, the legislation removes federal restrictions on LNG exports, shifts approval authority to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and restores Trump-era energy policies.
Johnson said the bill is essential to lowering energy costs, supporting American workers, and strengthening national security, calling Biden’s pause “one of his most damaging decisions.” Supporters argue the legislation will stabilize the energy sector by preventing future political shifts from limiting LNG exports.
Key Republicans praised the measure. Rep. Brett Guthrie said it would help reduce household energy costs, while bill author Rep. August Pfluger called it a “major victory” for U.S. energy independence.
The bill now moves to the Senate, where GOP lawmakers are pushing for swift passage. Johnson also announced upcoming hearings on rising violence against law enforcement following recent attacks on National Guard members and federal personnel.
Lawmakers say seniors could particularly benefit from expanded LNG production through lower utility bills and improved energy reliability.
